From 0° to 90°: Avantgarde Shoes by Anuk Yosebashvili

Exploring the Intersection of Ballet and Fencing

The collection merges the elegance of ballet with the precision of fencing, resulting in a series of avant-garde shoes that push the boundaries of design and technology.

Inspired by the artistry and athleticism of ballet and fencing, designer Anuk Yosebashvili created a collection of avant-garde shoes that seamlessly blend these two disciplines. The collection, aptly named "From 0° to 90°," showcases the transformative power of the human body and the innovative possibilities of 3D printing technology.

What sets these shoes apart is the use of multi-material 3D printing, a cutting-edge fabrication technique that allows for the creation of highly complex structures made of a combination of materials. This technology, previously unachievable in a single process, opens up new avenues for designers to explore.

The shoes were made using the Connex3 3D printing system, which offers a wide selection of different materials that can be used simultaneously. By combining colored and transparent rigid materials, as well as transparent and black rubber-like materials, Yosebashvili was able to create pieces with varying levels of transparency, flexibility, and movement.

The collection features modular designs, consisting of solid 3D printed toe cups and removable inner socks. The heel heights are measured in degrees, ranging from 0° for a flat shoe to 90° for a pointe shoe. This unique approach not only showcases the designer's creativity but also highlights the connection between ballet and fencing, two art forms that share a common ancestry.

Throughout the design process, Yosebashvili faced various challenges, including the need to create shoes that could be worn at extreme angles. However, through innovative problem-solving and collaboration with other creatives, such as the "into the deep" series with ITR studio, the designer was able to overcome these obstacles and create truly remarkable footwear.

The "From 0° to 90°" collection has garnered international recognition and has been exhibited at prestigious events and competitions, including the International Talent Support (ITS) competition in Italy and the MUUSE: Vogue talents young vision accessories award. It is a testament to the designer's dedication to pushing the boundaries of design and technology.

With its fusion of art, technology, and innovation, the "From 0° to 90°" collection by Anuk Yosebashvili represents a bold step forward in the world of avant-garde footwear. By seamlessly blending the worlds of ballet and fencing, Yosebashvili has created a collection that not only showcases her unique vision but also challenges our perceptions of what is possible in design.
